MOVIE: CIRCUS ON ICE.

“Hurry, hurry, hurry!…step right up to see the latest thing in show business…the Big Top on ice! See the only dragon in captivity…the ferocious “wild beasts”…the Dance of death…all a colourful poetry of motion on skates! Presented with all the skilled precision and scintillating artistry of the entire cast of three hundred members of the Toronto Skating club.”

The 1954 film, Circus on Ice is a 9-minute short produced by Associated Screen News, and directed by Gordon Sparling, based on the 40th annual of the Carnival of the Toronto Skating Club.

*The passcode to view the film is the name of the city of the skating club (case-sensitive)…


The show includes various synchronized skating routines, themed costumes (such as zebra-inspired outfits), and features a ringleader for the circus theme. The production showcases international talent, including French skater Jacqueline du Bief. The film, shown here, was made from a 35mm picture, and sound track, held at Library & Archives Canada.
